AIGA-MN, Open for Criticism
In a bold, internet-savvy move, the AIGA-MN is letting everyone critique the work for this years’ Exhibit A: Interactive Showcase.
At the time of this writing, you could criticize a number of things: the lack of a background color on the website, that all the website entries are shown as static screenshots, that an entry’s thumbnail does not link to the entry’s details.
To their credit all the work on the site was volunteer and this is the second year of the Exhibit A experiment. The event’s goal of focusing on the performance of interactive work and solving a client’s design problem rather than “oooohhhh it looks cool” is a big shift for the American Institute of Graphic Artists. Perhaps Exhibit A will inspire other communities and events and bring some evidence that:

I’ll admit that the new site has me optimistic. The quality of the work submitted is almost secondary to the fact that hopefully it’ll spark some in-depth conversations about the work. And the fact that the conversations are online makes the whole experiment that much more applicable to the subject matter. Should be fun.
I just went back to the site and saw that the amount of entries has actually SHRANK!?
Yes, indeed. Looks like the both the College of Visual Arts and Better Life Media entries were pulled from the front page, yet remain in the ‘discuss submissions’ section in the left-hand column. Odd.
Just doing a little house cleaning to try and make the thumnails clickable. Since we’ll be adding a bunch of submissions over the weekend, I figured I could move a few to an archives page … which will be linked from the main page.
