Bill Stumpf saved our asses.
The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Awards ‘06 have just been announced and local chair genious Bill Stumpf has won this year’s award in Product Design for his contribution to ergonomic design. If you are a web developer, at some point, your ass has likely benefited from one of Bill’s many inventions–most likely the trademark icon of the dot-com boom: the Aeron chair.

Congrats to Bill. Years ago, i read his book, the The Ice Palace That Melted Away: How Good Design Enhances Our Lives – one of the most pratical, down-to-earth books on design thinking to date.
Indeed, he did save my ass many-a-time. I worked on the Brooks Stevens Design team for two years – sitting in a fully customizable Aeron we obtained through a partnership with Herman Miller. The only critique I have is that the lower lumbar support pad popped off quite often. That aside, indeed a great design.
Congratulations!
(Bill, when will your new website launch? I was hoping to delve into the details of you firm, but found only a “coming soon” page.)
