Buy.com

It’s 2004 and I still have to have exchanges like this with large internet retailers:

me: I find a deal for a wireless card with free shipping at buy.com. I go to purchase it online. I then check out and realize I’ve been charged $6 for shipping. I send email.

buy.com: You must have picked the incorrect shipping option. If you notice the fine print, you need to choose the shipping method that we state qualifies for free shipping.

me: I didn’t *pick* anything. Your site defaulted to the $6 shipping. I find this misleading advertising. Please credit my purchase the $6 in shipping.

buy.com: OK. We’ll send a request to your CC company.

me (five days later): Hmm…still no package. Check online status. Has yet to be fulfilled at the warehouse. I send another email.

buy.com: We’re sorry. This item is on backorder. You may cancel the order.

me: ARGH! I cancel order and place a new order on another site.

me (next morning, 10am): Receive an email stating that the order I *cancelled yesterday* has shipped.

me (2 hours later…): Package arrives at doorstep. What the…!? I send yet another long email asking them to explain how an order for a product that was backordered and subsequently cancelled managed to yet be shipped and someone sent cross-country in less than 2 hours.

Ugh.
