Looks like I have 2 options:

Never change keyboards, and in fact, dig up and old Apple II with the ‘closed Apple’ key – just to keep it real.

Print up an lifetime supply of ‘open apple’ stickers for placing on the Command key of every new keyboard I see.

UPDATE:
Here’s the Wikipedia entry on the Apple’s Command Key, including the rise and fall of the ‘closed’ or ‘solid’ Apple key (spoiler: it became ‘Option’). According to that entry, between ’84 and ’86, there were no apple keys on the keyboard.

Computers are smart. They can do lots of cool things like tell me it’s my turn to pick up the produce from the CSA or load up an interesting blog post for you to read. Unfortunately, ‘social network’ startup Pownce.com isn’t buying the smartest computers.

They need to be told the difference between a message, link, file, and event.

Jeeeeez. I’m not a computer and I know the difference between those things. A message is words, a link has a clear structure (‘http://’ is generally a good hint), an event has dates in it (same with grandma’s cookies), and a file is a something I upload.

If Pownce.com bought smarter computers, the top of you page might look something like this:

Go Pro, if only to contribute to their Smarter Computer Fund.

John Gruber talked about the difference when he compared iCal to the calendar in 37signals’ Backpack.

During CEO Steve Job’s keynote presentation at the annual Apple Developer Conference this week, he announced to a stunned crowed, that the forthcoming version of Mac OS X, dubbed “Leopard”, will be the last. Replaced by what is being called ‘iTunes OS’.

Apple ‘iTunes OS’ may be the long rumored cross-platfrom OS some claim will supplant Microsoft’s Windows while saving Apple millions of dollars annually on development, marketing, and support costs.

The first signs of this change can be seen in the Leopard Finder, the sidebar with ‘devices’, smart searches, and the integrated Apple Store make it indistinguishable from the cross-platform iTunes media player.

This surprise “one more thing” hasn’t been well received by the Mac blogging community:

“Overall, it was a disappointing keynote.” – Michael Tsai

“Really cool? Sure. Really useful? Uh-huh.” – John Gruber

Strategery Consulting Inc: You need to hire us to build you a web site.

People LLC: Oh. Really? Why?

SC: Well, our research has shown that your main competitor, Widgets Inc., is about to release a new killer app!

PL: Umm…our main competitor is Doodads And More.

SC: Whatever…that’s not important. What’s important is that you hire us.

PL: Well, OK. How much is it going to cost?

SC: It’s too risky to the project to specify any cost, but it shouldn’t cost more than 5 figures.

PL: How long will it take?

SC: A week? Maybe a month? We doubt more than 2 months.

…6 months later…

SC: Mission accomplished! This has been a succeful project!

PL: Great, here’s your check.

SC: Well, hold on, just because we declared the project finished does doesn’t mean you can quit on us now. We’re going to need more money and time.

PL: To do what, exactly?

SC: Doesn’t matter. Just cut us the check already…

PL: *sigh*. FINE, but you need to give us a final deadline ’cause we can’t just keep dishing out money for this project.

SC: Why are you going to risk your entire business by insisting that your overpaid contractor come up with a project plan? WHY!?

(I intended to write this in jest, but then I realized this isn’t really that far from the truth in a lot of vendor projects I’ve seen…)

While the rest of the press was covering Google’s Pay-Per-Action event and new Google Homepage themes, I received confirmation that Google is extending their popular AdWords and AdSense programs to the homeless sign holders on highway exits and stop lights.

By combining Google Maps & Traffics services, advertisers purchasing through Google’s programs will be able to select the exact geographic location their ads are presented. And in some select locations – who the ads are presented by.

John L, product manager for AdSense promoted the program, “This is the first effort of it’s kind and goes to the heart of our goal to not be evil.”

Until the inventory increases, many of the ads will be community service announcements and other messages from non-profit organizations.

UPDATE:
In reaction to today’s news, Mike Arrington wrote:

“This should be good for Google’s overall market share and long term revenue growth. Anything that drives fraud out of the network will get advertisers to actually spend more money, not less, as their ROIs increase.”

UPDATE 24 Sept 2009
More great signs.
