We have an immediate opening for a User Experience Designer (Contract)
at Medtronic in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

High-Level Responsibilities:

Provide leadership conducting task analysis and usability assessments.
Work closely with customers, the business teams and the development
teams to play a lead role in user interface design for internally- and
externally-facing web applications and sites. Conduct heuristic
evaluations and recommend design improvements. Conduct usability tests
and present usability results and recommend design solutions to
project managers, business users, developers and testers. Gathers and
analyzes user requirements. Conduct workflow analysis. Design the
information architecture and content of the site and develop a
conceptual model to prototype. Design and prototype interfaces using
standard tools. Provide detailed design document for the development
team to construct the site. Develop user guides.

Requirements

• Strong GUI design and problem solving skills
• Experience applying formal design methodologies such as creating a high fidelity design from paper prototypes or wireframes
• Fluency in Photoshop
• Above-average familiarity with web standards (XHTML, CSS, WCAG) and the impact they have on design
• Experience designing highly transactional sites
• Ability to meet with us periodically at our offices in Eagan, MN
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently

Here’s the catch: We are looking for someone who can start almost immediately.(Our prototyper was unexpectedly poached by another department!)

Major Responsibilities

• Develop prototypical user interfaces from designs provided by the Thomson West usability team; some work will involve “from scratch” prototype creation but there will also be a need to partner with/build on prototype development work done by others
• Work closely with the product team to ensure the prototype meets the product requirements
• Work with business units to develop efficient, easy-to-implement interfaces

Desired Qualifications

• 2+ years experience in development of web based systems
• Familiarity/experience with Dreamweaver desireable but not required
• HTML, ASP, CSS and experience required
• XML, AJAX experience strongly preferred
• Working knowledge of usability and GUI design principles required
• Excellent creative and practical problem-solving and issue resolution skills
