Curbly - The DIY Design Community

Curbly - the latest project from Minnesota Ruby on Rails Rockstars, Bruno Bornsztein and Ben Moore - is like a Web 2.0-compliant Digg + MySpace + ReadyMade magazine (Between you and me - this is great because ReadyMade got a little too cool for itself a couple years back).
Curbly has lots of big pictures, […]

SaySwap.com - Video Game Trading Community Launches

I’m a little late on posting this, sorry.
Big congrats to local Ruby on Rails superstars, Slantwise Design, and the rest of the team behind SaySwap.com.

Shark Jump 2.0?

Alex over at Read/Write Web has the rundown of the companies presenting at next week’s DEMOfall ‘06. Everyone of them sounds like vaporware nonsense. Though, that just might be the boring marketing speak descriptions and the stereotypical trendiness of the names.
My favorite is the ‘VaporStream’ with ‘unclear’ in both the Technology and Description columns. […]

Strib’s Vita.MN - Twin Cities New Entertainment Guide

I just got word the embargo on talking about the Star Tribune’s new entertainment guide vita.mn has been lifted. (Though, our good friend Matt jumped the guy by just a few hours. Matt…he’s funny like that.)
I’ve been playing with it off and on for a couple months - and there is promise. Two features really […]

MinneDemo Wrap-up

Big thanks to Luke Francl and Dan Grigsby for a very enjoyable MinneDemo debut. The room was packed - easily a hundred people for 90 minutes of locally-built software demos.
Good demos, great conversations. Superb way to come back from summer.
Flickr photos thanks to PFHyper including this one exposing the FeedSeeder project I’ve been working […]

We Gotta Wanna.

“I think we could create a slice of Silicon Valley here in the Twin Cities, but we first have to want it, not just wish for it.” - Robert Metcalf, Flyspy.com
in a great interview by Graeme Thickens.

PostBubble Sinks MN-based Yugma

“Yugma looked (and sounded) really impressive until I tried using it” - Cameron Olthuis
Ouch.
First off, Steve - you didn’t tell me you were the President, I thought you were just advising them. Cool. Congrats.
Secondly, back before the name change, I played with Yugma and found their setup process to be far more straight-forward and […]

Wize.com - Now You Know

At the MIMA event tonight, I heard about another local Web 2.0 company aiming to launch yet this year - Wize.com. Word is, Wize sounds like it’s something of a EdgeIO for reviews.
Reminds me, MinneDemo is coming up in a few weeks and I’ve got some development to do.

MinneDemo - Minnesota’s DemoCamp Sept 5, 2006

MinneBar proved what we suspected all along: the Twin Cities have some
kick ass software people doing some kick ass software projects.
To keep the momentum of MinneBar going — and to give people an opportunity to show off some of their projects — we’re throwing MinneDemo, a DemoCamp for the Twin Cities. DemoCamps are a […]

I Wondered if Minneapolis Was Bubblier than Chicago

As you may have read elsewhere, I spent the past week poking around the city on the other side of Wisconsin, Chicago. Catching up with old friends over dinner I asked how the tech startup climate was feeling.
I was surprised when the responses were lukewarm - 37Signals and Feedburner were the only two mentioned. At […]
