This will work on Windows Vista 32 bit if you download the update, but is not compatible with Vista 64-bit at all. Go figure...that's my OS. I bought a little cheap netbook and it doesn't work either b/c the fp3 software only allows you to rip from CDs. This was a gift. I'm glad I didn't waste my $ on it b/c it's a poor design. Would be great if the software was better.

Ok - in a moment of desperation I called Mattel after nearly getting lost in the Phone Tree of Doom, I was connected to a kind guy names Omar who registered the product for us over the phone, we explained the entire situation (Given as a gift, but was purchased used) and asked him if I buy a new CD (available on their site for $1.50) will it come with a new serial number? He placed me on hold to find out - and after a brief moment he was back and told we that they are not in the habit of doing this, but that he explained asked his supervisor and the case was approved!

He then gave me a new serial number over the phone and told me that he would be emailing it as well!

DL - I've got the same problem, my Mother bought this used on ebay for our youngest daughter. We have the CD, but no serial number on anything that we were given.

I'm on the hunt for a serial number.

I lost the FP3 software recently... I downloaded the FP3 software from the Mattel support website (Thanks, Kelly!!)... Now my problem is the serial number that you need to complete the software installation! I bought this gadget over a year ago, so I do not have the box for reference. Does anyone know where to obtain the serial number?

Angelique - you will need to call them and go through the reformat steps. This thing is VERY nitpicky about being removed correctly from the computer. You MUST choose to disconnect the hardware via the "Safely Remove Hardware" option. You can then reload the songs from the FP3 player software.

My comment is similiar to the others except for the main problem is that once I got everything loaded on the device, it starts to play then it starts this really loud static noise... Does anyone know what that could be? When I spoke to Fisher Price they said that they may be able to reformat the device? Does this sound right? I am afraid that it may make the problem worse and then I would also lose all of the music that has been downloaded on the device. Any suggestions???

Having got two of the FP3 players for the girls had the same issue with Vista. Did try ringing Fisher Price (no use whatsoever)....

Luckily having done a fair bit on computers and having collected a fair amount of different software am using a package called VMware to create a virtual machine running a copy of XP i had lying around. Not the ideal way to have to get around it but it works.

My wife took an hour long train ride to collect the 'only' blue version of the FP3 still in stock anywhere in Scotland on Christmas Eve last year. My son loved it. I agree that the initial set-up was terrible and not for the faint hearted. The unit has last approximately 6 months! Tonight I got the unit out of my son's room to get it ready for a long journey tomorrow and I discover it won't power up. Bought new batteries, installed them and nothing! So, I tried to install the unit onto an iMac (not compatible), so grabbed my works laptop (which has no optical drive). I've been able to connect to the unit via USB, but when uncoupled from the cable it fails to power up. A totally blank screen / no audio. Going on line I discover that Fisher Price offer the worst customer service of any company I have thus far encountered. No information on their website, no Q/A, no fault reporting, no firmware updates & no manual. Worst of all I discover there's no software to be downloaded to my works Netbook, so even if I did get the unit working... having moved from PC to iMac for business reasons, we are stuck! I think this FP3 will be heading for the bin! Thanks for nothing Fisher Price. Hardly the most kid friendly, tough, reliable or even useful product. With Apple iPods costing as little as £40 these days I am off to get my 5 year old something more Apple friendly & user friendly. Junk! 0/10 rating.
