Flickr + Target = A Good, Right, and Easy Digital Print Experience
Up until a couple weeks ago, if we wanted prints of our digital photos we’d, well, hit ‘Print’. But, we’re moving and I packed up the printer when I packed up our offices. And we needed a couple dozen prints – quick.
This was the slickest buy-online-pick-up-in-store experience I’ve had since last-minute Christmas shopping at Best Buy.
I loaded up the photos to my Flickr account via FlickrExport, creating a ‘set’ or album in the process. Then, selecting the new album over in the Flickr.com side of things, I hit the ‘make stuff’, selected the print sizes and the Target down the street. Confirmed the Order.
Then picked them up an hour later.
Brilliant. It’d only be easier if Target was integrated into iPhoto.

I had gone through 2 or 3 online photo printers these past 5 years or so before finally going with flickr. I liked flickr because a) uploading is insanely easy with their bulk uploader and b) target is everywhere.
Drawbacks:
1) Flicker isn’t making much money for Yahoo. Will they be around in 2 years?
2) Target’s print options are abysmal. Glossy. That’s it.
Still looking for that ‘dream’ print outfit that will:
– offers traditional AND digital sized prints
– offers glossy, matte, and other surface options
– can apply white borders without excessive cropping
I just wrote about this too. I like flickr’s integration with QOOP. I havn’t ordered a book yet, but I am tempted to. Except the book I want to make is of old square photos with borders, and I do not want the photo cropped to fit.
