I thought it was just an act!?
This year’s gay bashing season started off with the usual ‘inane talking points repeated ad nauseam’ by our own Rep. Dan Severson. Due to some flex time scheduling at work this spring, I’ve had the displeasure of being able to watch Mr. Severson ‘debate’ live thanks to Minnesota Public Television.
Obviously, Mr. Severson is a wannabe protoge of our lovely Senator Michele Bachmann. Unfortunately, Mr. Severson hasn’t attended as many Karl Rove workshops as our Senator. While both of their GOP scripted talking point rants posses much of the same ignorant spin, Severson comes across as a muttering fool. Bachmann, on the other hand, is able to deliver it with an air of fearsome authority. When she speaks–for a split-second–you actually feel that allowing something as ‘horid’ as gay marriage would surely spell the end of the free world.
Of course, after that split second goes by, most sane folks want to slap her silly and knock the Rove-isms out of her. But yet, we have to give her a bit of credit. She has the skills to sway the ignorant masses away from important issues and to somehow think that writing prejudice into our state constitution is somehow a good thing.
She’s a good actor.
Or so I thought.
Recent revelations seem to indicate that she may not be acting, but actually posses a debilitating form of homophobia. Apparently, this disease can cripple her ability to function normally. When the gay folks begin to gather in groups, she’s forced to cower and dive into the nearest clump of bushes. (more photos here).
Poor, poor woman. We either need to find a cure for her condition, or, preferably, just get her out of office.
