iTunes…A Microsoftian ploy?

Well, Apple just released iTunes. A free, fully functional MP3 player and decoder based off of SoundJam. I think this is terrible. The guys at Panic have spent a few years developing one of the greated programs for the Mac: Audion. Apple, instead of purchasing their superior product, decide to license the competition, give it away, and put everyone out of business. Perhaps SoundJam knew it couldn’t compete with Audion and decided to smash them instead?

This is one gripe I have about Apple. So many hard working developers create incredible add-ons for the Mac OS. It usually takes a few years for Apple to go ‘hey…that’s a great idea’ but instead of purchasing the rights to the third party software, they seem to just implement their own version, which basically puts the developer out of business.

Shame.
