Kid goes to jail, MS keeps on doing nothing.
The Minnesota teen charged with a variant of the blaster worm looks like he’ll be spending a few years in Jail.
What bothers me most about this is that the press has given little scrutiny to the other big culprit…Microsoft. Yes, this kid wrote a few basic lines of code, but without the wonderfully inept software from Microsoft…namely Exchange, Outlook, and the Windows Operating System itself, none of this would have happened.
And these ‘millions in damages’ seem to be great scapegoat for more IT departments to justify their continued existence as bloated, over-budgeted corporate ball-and-chains.
OK, the kid did wrong. He knows it too. And he probably deserves more than a slap on the wrist. But a few years in jail while Microsoft continues to buy out monopoly lawsuits and generate record incomes through selling clearly inferior products?

Hey folks, cool stuff here. Darrel, couldn’t let this one pass w/out a comment. And that comment is, “you gotta be kidding me”. The kid broke the law, got caught, and is being punished. Where exactly did big bad ol’ MS break the law by putting out buggy software? Seems to me the only thing they did wrong was becoming so damn popular.
