This is completely off topic, but, hey, it’s Friday.

We’d like to rent a cabin this summer somewhere in the MN/Iowa/WI region not TOO far from the Twin Cities.

In the past we’ve visited Madeline Island which has always had a very nice selection of homes and cabins that, while perhaps not ‘modern’ are certainly well designed, built, and furnished.

We took that for granted and are now finding that rental cabins anywhere else don’t quite meet the same quality standards. Lots of early-80’s furniture…cheap siding…shag carpeting…none are really giving us that feeling of ‘getting away from it all’

We did eventually find a wonderful candidate. It was a small modern–but rustic–cabin in the middle of a state forest. A sauna, full electricity, nice furnishings, huge fireplace, but…no plumbing. Eek. A week without showers in the woods is maybe TOO rustic for us.

So, if anyone has any leads on nice cabins in the region (or resorts, for that matter, though we were hoping to get away from the crowds) let me know!
