I’m not sure why I haven’t heard of Magnatune (tagline: “We Are Not Evil”) until just recently. It’s the music distribution concept that I thought was always being overlooked. Magnatune has taken the shareware concept and applied it to the music distribution industry. Browse music on the site, download whatever you like in DRM-free MP3 format, and, if you like it, pay for it. How much do you pay? Whatever you think the music is worth. Artists retain all rights and receive half of anything purchased.

The only nitpik about the site is that I’m embarrassed of the fact that I’m not up-to-date on my hip music genres. Can anyone explain the difference between “deliciously groovy electro-pop” and “hauntingly ethereal pop ambient”?
