Maybe the older the company, the fewer the hours each week? I do UX Design at a 125-year-old company, and we have a 35-hour workweek!
I saw it as a bit of a sad indicator of the American work week. Apparently, enough people are working well over 40 hours a week these days to make a 40 hour week a compelling benefit. ;o)
