The One Day Web Design Idea
An Idea for BIG Client Problems over at the [non]billable hour is a good read.
The gist is – dedicate a pre-determined amount of time to a single problem, and you’ll be surprised at the results.
Now, take a framework like Ruby on Rails, and a reasonably experienced team of 3-5 people, covering visual design, CSS, and programming and give them a decent-sized web app project and leave them alone. I suspect you’d be surprised at the productivity.
Let’s say $5,000 bought this team’s focus for 1 day.
Seems to me, with the right projects and clients this web design A-Team could build some pretty amazing stuff and have plenty of time to train.

This approach is very similiar to charettes, used by architects for quite some time now. A cool process that inherently fosters true collaboration and real problem solving. Count me in.
Jeff, thanks for the tip on charettes. Great to see this method has been hashed out by our friends in the urban planning community.
I’m on board with this…provided we get a van just like the real A-Team.
If y’all are interested in adding a designer to strengthen/round-out such a team, count me in as well.
Oh, and hey there Jeff and Garrick. Sorry for such a delayed contribution to this intriguing post.
So, where shall we meet?
