You already know I agree with Karl. In my experience, the practitioners that really ‘get’ web design compare it more to urban planning, architecture, and other complex systems.

I still say one of the most applicable texts to read in preparing for a career in web design is ‘how buildings learn’.

It’s an old book…written before the internet ever came along, but there are all sorts of great parallels and analogies one can pull out of the book and really apply to any multidisciplinary design project.

For that matter, more architects need to read that book as well.
