Update on How to Cancel a MySpace Account
If you can believe it, it’s been 5 months since I posted on How to Cancel a MySpace Account. It’s not over yet! And it’s really starting to irk me.
About a month ago (yes, it’s taken me this long to post about this) I received the MySpace Newsletter in my Inbox. Seriously.
I’m pretty sure I said I was scared to log in to MySpace for fear that they would automatically renew my membership. I’m still scared.
But notice that you have to log in to stop receiving the MySpace newsletter:![]()
I’m also annoyed by the use of bright blue links on the MySpace blue background. Can this really be intentional? My guess- yes. It seems to me that the use of blue links on this blue background is in fact a usability nightmare that is done on purpose. Perhaps the idea is that if users can’t actually see the links, then they won’t click on them.
In the end, you have to be very persistent (or ignorant) to cancel a MySpace account. Come on, Rupert. Throw me a bone here.

Social networking sites see no value in actual users…only actual ’sign ups’. When they go to sell, all that matters is ‘we have x million registered users’. Whether or not they are happy seems to be irrelevant.
I recently visited a social networking site that I had signed up for about a year ago and hardly use. I couldn’t remember my login credentials, so clicked on SEND ME AN EMAIL.
The email gave me my password. Of course, I couldn’t remember my username either.
I couldn’t create a new one, because only one account per email address.
I finally emailed the site and they responded “yea, good point…we’ll add that to our to-do list”.
Of course, they failed to actually give me my login name.
So, yea, the fact that I signed up was all that mattered to them, it seems. Whether I continue using their service…no so much.
As of this date, I have 3 rogue myspace accounts that mySpace will not allow me to cancel. They will not send a confirmation email to cancel the account.
I was able to in the past when I made mistakes creating accounts, and can still recieve notices and
other messaging.
When it comes to the confirmation email to cancel the account, they do not send it, and refuse to answer emails.
I’m advising everyone to discontinue signups on MySpace until they fix the problem, otherwise any information you may put on there may be up there forever.
My problem is the same as cdcweb’s. I figured it was a filter on my end being the cause for not getting the cancellation request confirmation email.
Even though I checked with my isp and they said they weren’t blocking that email. I got a password request email no problem though.
I got the confirmation to cancel in my email, but no instructions to follow.Nothing to “click”
