Websota.com – Minnesota Web Design Gallery Launches
I love the MN design community. It’s filled with people that go out and build stuff to scratch their own itch. The latest example of this: Websota – built by the FiveTechnology team 1.
There are only 14 designers listed in their directory, so, I encourage all of you to add yourselves and those designers whose work you love, same for blogs2.
1. I’m hoping this isn’t just part of their heavy SEO campaign visible on the fivetechnology.com site, e.g. linking the phrase ‘Minneapolis, Minnesota area web design’ to yourself….yeah, um, could you at least link it to Websota. kthxbye.
2. Cullect – one of my projects – has an number of reading lists aggregating Minnesota-based blogs in a number of categories. Minnesota Design, MN Local, Twin Cities are just a few.

I just submitted a couple sites. But looking around a bit more, I think you’re correct. Totally a link-whore SEO thing. SEO and subtlety don’t mix, I guess.
Hey Garrick – Thanks for the plug, post and link. I met you briefly at a SM breakfast event in August at Best Buy.
Websota is a “for fun” project just launched last week. We obviously do have lower (grass roots promo) objectives for our own brand and CMS tool, but goal number one is to support and promote the MN web design community. Goal #2 is to show local organizations the talented options and work out there. There are so many talented MN web peeps out there. We did want to create a collection point.
It’s been fun to build and launch the site. Primarily using Twitter and other industry connections Websota has started to gain a little notice. Just another awesome part of the MN web scene.
We are posting info submitted just about as soon as we get it so thanks for encouraging that. We have received a few gallery submissions, but for the most part we are scouring the web for those ourselves. We have future plans for sections on web jobs, events and more. We just hope to find the time to get to it or we might have to possibly open up for help!
Thanks again.
@justin – I’ll reply to your submissions, but man, can ya just hold back on jumping to a conclusion? A few hundred hours just to get the site up, it’s up for a week and ya feel the need to take a shot? Ouch.
Aaron – thanks for stopping by and giving us some more background. Of course there’s a substantial effort involved in launching any project. That’s not the issue, questionable linking practices is.
You bet. In regards to the footer link on our corporate site (FIVE), it’s the home page link for the footer. I don’t feel it’s deceptive in any way to the user, it’s exactly what we are and do. I’m not aware of anything of link issue for Websota, we’re handing out links left and right there. Thanks again!
