Yes, Information Architecture is Boring
I completely agree. IA has gotten boring, in the same way usability has gotten boring.
Arguably, this is a sign of success for the practice. It’s stabilized outside of geekdom. People with checkbooks know what it means. Practitioners can make a good living at it without needing to sell and re-sell every angle of information architecture.
Sure, the pioneering phase is over. But, that’s ok, there’s lots of other interesting, unsolved problems in need of a good whacking.

“able to share the outcomes of where all this process and framework thinking lead to”
But isn’t the ‘visual outcome’ usually a menu or a widget or a site map? It seems that the process *is* the important aspect, so why not focus on it?
There are still plenty of clients that need educating. And in terms of technology, we are maybe just out of it’s infancy. We still have plenty of problems to solve.
Windows Vista’s nag screens anyone?
Taking customization to a new level? CSS does a lot of things, but what if I’m a vendor and want to selectively present different fields for different clients and change the order of the fields without crazy absolute positioning schemes , breaking tab order.
